A decade ago, King’s Head Cottage at Banham near Norwich was derelict and empty, writes Matthew Slocombe.

Fortunately, the medieval Grade II listed building, which has an unusual moulded “queen post” roof structure, usually only found in commercial buildings, was then acquired by the Norfolk Building Preservation Trust. They repaired it carefully, using traditional material.

The three-bedroom, two-reception room cottage, now in good shape and back on the market, is available through Fine and Country, Norwich, for £345,000 (01603 221888).

Matthew Slocombe is deputy secretary at the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings. Four times a year, members of the SPAB receive a free list of old buildings for sale and in need of repair.
