Riverboats plan is sunk

A plan to put riverboat homes on the Thames in Battersea has been turned down
Developer Living River Limited wanted to provide for 36 barges and moorings but councillors in Wandsworth said it was like “building on the river”.

The barges were to stand alongside the Oyster Wharf development in Battersea. But the Wandsworth Society and other local people did not like the idea of creating profitable real estate on the water or obstructing the view for landlubbers.

Planning applications chairman Leslie McDonnell agreed that the project was too large, would alter the character of the river and turned down the plan.
